Your role

The successful candidate is expected to assume a role in experimental quantum communications and networking, in accordance with ongoing European initiatives and projects.

The candidate will play a key role in the design, implementation, and characterization of quantum communication systems, with particular emphasis on optical communications, free-space optical FSO links, the realization of quantum key distribution QKD protocols, and their integration into broader optical and networked infrastructures. Day-to-day activities will span optical bench work, the development and control of experimental setups, data acquisition and analysis, and the dissemination of results through peer-reviewed publications. The candidate will pursue a doctoral degree under the supervision of senior researchers within the group.

Your profile

  • Hold - or be close to complet - a master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Telecommunications, Quantum Technologies, or a closely related discipline, with a focus on experimental optics and quantum communications
  • Solid background in experimental quantum optics and/or photonics, with hands-on laboratory experience, free-space and/or fiber optics
  • Working knowledge of free-space optical FSO communication concepts and challenges, including beam propagation, pointing, acquisition and tracking, and atmospheric effects
  • Programming and instrument-control skills, e.g. Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, for data acquisition and analysis
  • A genuine interest in pursuing doctoral-level research, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team

Operational language requirements: Excellent command of English (C1) is required.
