About us
The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.
The Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) at the University of Luxembourg is a leading international research and innovation centre in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT systems and services.
We play an instrumental role in Europe by fueling innovation through research partnerships with industry, boosting R&D investments leading to economic growth, and attracting highly qualified talent. We look for researchers from diverse academic backgrounds to contribute to our projects in areas such as: Network Security, Information Assurance, Model-driven Security, Cloud Computing, Cryptography, Satellite Systems, Vehicular Networks, and ICT Services & Applications
The University of Luxembourg Institute for Digital Ethics (ULIDE) is a transdisciplinary research centre located at the Belval Campus. It interweaves academic discourse, political advice, and vivid communication with the public. ULIDE's transdisciplinary work links Faculties and Interdisciplinary Centres across the University and beyond the boundaries of their respective disciplines.
Situated at the intersection of different disciplines, ULIDE draws on the University's vast intellectual resources to explore the complex relationship between technology, society and ethics. ULIDE analyses ethical and societal problems emerging with digitalisation and AI, explains and evaluates them both for digital professionals as well as laymen, and advises national stakeholders (government, administration, educational system, private sector) as well as international stakeholders dealing with AI and big data.
The successful candidate will be based at ULIDE and will also be part of SnT at the University of Luxembourg.
Your role
We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher in cybersecurity or related fields, with a particular emphasis or interest in humanitarian cybersecurity, data protection, and/or privacy-by-design. The candidate should possess expertise in threat modelling and risk assessment for humanitarian and civil society actors, analysing data security incidents, conducting cross-sectional audits of missions, amongst others. The role involves developing incident response and contingency plans, including communication strategies for data leaks, the design of secure and privacy preserving data practices, contributing to research and policy in digital security and privacy within humanitarian contexts. Familiarity with sector-specific threats such as targeted surveillance, spyware, data exposure, and/or cloud-based tools in fragile contexts is highly desirable. Additionally, experience in research within crisis-affected regions and humanitarian contexts in the Global South is highly desirable. The ideal applicant is an internationally recognized scholar, who is actively engaged and interested in policy-oriented projects and applied research, such as white papers and policy briefs. Previous experience in designing or delivering online trainings is also welcome. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research and policy development in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
