We are looking for a Senior SAP BusinessObjects Expert with deep platform knowledge to diagnose and resolve critical refresh and publication failures in a BO 4.3 environment.
This mission is ideal for a consultant who wants to engage in high‑level, high‑impact, short-term interventions, followed by occasional expert support throughout the year.
You will join a client struggling with intermittent WebI refresh errors and unstable overnight publications, currently on BO 4.3 SP4 Patch 7, with an upcoming upgrade to SP5

Responsibilities
Phase 1 - Diagnostic & Root Cause Analysis
- Analyse Web Intelligence refresh failures and "generic/system error" messages.
- Investigate instability in scheduled and overnight publications.
- Review logs, traces, APS/WebI server configuration, JVM sizing, timeouts, and resource allocation.
- Reproduce issues, isolate causes, and validate hypotheses.
Phase 2 - Stabilisation of the BO Platform
- Optimise WebI processing servers and APS distribution.
- Implement corrective configuration changes to improve stability and refresh reliability.
- Support scheduling, publication workflows, and fail‑safe retries.
- Document all fixes and changes applied.
Phase 3 - Advisory & Strategic Recommendations
- Provide a clear path to migrate safely from SP4 to SP5.
- Advise on future architecture, clustering, performance tuning, and robustness improvements.
- Evaluate the UNV-based semantic layer (4 universes, multiple versions each).
- Recommend a mid-term strategy for UNV → UNX migration (not required immediately).
- (Optional) Advise on BO & Power BI coexistence / integration patterns.
Support & Collaboration
- Work closely with a small internal team (2 full-time report developers).
- Transfer knowledge and provide actionable guidance for long-term autonomy.
- Be available for occasional call‑on consulting during the year.
Technical Must-Haves
- 10+ years SAP BusinessObjects experience, with deep understanding of:
- BO Platform Administration
- Web Intelligence processing engine
- APS configuration & optimisation
- Scheduling & Publication framework
- Windows-based BO deployments
- Proven ability to troubleshoot WebI refresh failures and inconsistent publication executions.
- Experience fixing SP4 instabilities and preparing/validating upgrades to SP5.
- Strong diagnostic abilities: logs, end-to-end traces, error patterns, JVM behaviour.
Environment Experience
- BO 4.3 (SP4/SP5 experience strongly preferred)
- Windows Server environment
- Universes in UNV format (experience with UNV technical debt)
- Multi-version universe maintenance
Soft Skills
- Highly autonomous and structured
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
- Ability to explain complex concepts clearly
- Comfortable leading a diagnostic mission with limited initial information
- Excellent communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Language: English mandatory
Nice to Have
- Experience with Power BI integration in SAP BO environments
- Experience planning or executing UNV → UNX migrations
- Ability to audit SQL performance behind Web Intelligence queries
- Knowledge of cloud or hybrid BO architectures
- Experience with BI 2025 preparation strategies
