As a Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for managing and developing a portfolio of corporate clients, with a primary focus on Property and Marine Cargo business. You will play a key role in driving profitable growth, delivering technical underwriting excellence, and building strong relationships with brokers, clients, and reinsurance partners.
- Manage the underwriting performance and profitability of Property and Marine Cargo portfolios, serving both local Dutch corporates and Chinese corporate clients operating in the Netherlands.
- Underwrite new business and renewals, including complex and high-value risks, within delegated authority limits.
- Assess risk exposure, perform technical underwriting analysis, and determine pricing in accordance with approved underwriting and pricing guidelines.
- Negotiate coverage, terms, and conditions with brokers and clients to achieve profitable business outcomes.
- Ensure all underwriting activities comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and legal obligations.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of underwriting guidelines, rating methodologies, standards, and best practices.
- Provide technical expertise and product knowledge to clients, brokers, and distribution partners.
- Collaborate closely with reinsurers on treaty renewals and facultative placements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and other distribution channels to support business retention and new business acquisition.
- Identify client insurance needs and contribute to the development of tailored insurance solutions and value propositions.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 5 years' underwriting experience in Property and/or Marine Cargo insurance within the Dutch market.
- Solid understanding of commercial multi-line insurance business.
- Proven track record of managing complex underwriting cases and successfully resolving challenging broker and client situations.
- Experience working with large corporate accounts and developing tailored insurance programs.
- Fluency in Dutch and English, both written and spoken, is essential.
- Mandarin Chinese language skills would be considered a strong advantage.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and results-oriented professional.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
