The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social and educational sciences. People from across 20 disciplines are working within the Faculty. Along with the disciplinary approach a very ambitious interdisciplinary research culture has been developed.

The faculty's research and teaching focuses on social, economic, political and educational issues with the common goal of contributing to an inclusive, open and resourceful society. Your Role...

The Department of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Luxembourg is seeking to appoint a Doctoral Researcher on a 36-months fixed-term contract (12-months extension possible) starting September 1^st, 2024, at the latest January 1^st, 2025.

Description of research topic

The world population is living longer while there is a growing number of people relocating to new countries. Consequently, one group is increasingly visible in modern societies-people who grow old in a new country or relocate countries as older individuals (ageing migrants). There are unique characteristics that sets apart this group from populations of older people and migrants: Ageing migrants are becoming old(er) while adapting to life in a new country. The double jeopardy of ageing and being a migrant has consequences that are specific to this population which makes ageing migrants at a high risk of poor health. Addressing the opportunities and obstacles to a long and healthy life in populations of migrants is one of the acute global challenges while the implementation of digital technologies is seen as a solution.

The candidate will develop, conduct, publish, and communicate research at the intersection of migration and ageing. Related topics of interest may be health and/ or technology. The candidate will be working directly with Dr. Adrian Stanciu.

Responsibilities

• Research targeted at receiving a PhD in Psychology (cumulative through peer-reviewed publications)
• Data collection in populations of older and ageing people with a migration background
• Analysis of primary and/ or secondary data using quantitative methodology
• Peer-reviewed publications and participations at national and international conferences
• Contribute to group's research-related activities
• Provide support in establishing partnerships across academic institutions and industry
• Doctoral candidates at University of Luxembourg are encouraged to contribute to teaching with 30 to 60 teaching units per academic year (1 teaching unit = 45 minutes of teaching)

What we expect from you…

• Excellent master's degree (or equivalent) in Psychology or a related field
• Experience with and willing to use R for data analysis and beyond
• Good knowledge of and interest in quantitative methods, willing to learn advanced quantitative methods
• Interest in and willing to engage in interdisciplinary research
• Willing to travel, willing to relocate to Luxembourg or the surrounding greater area
• Equally comfortable working autonomously and under close supervision
• Communication and cooperation skills, administrative skills, an inquisitive mind
• Enthusiasm and enjoyment for research and science; a strong personal commitment
• Ability to work with strict deadlines, good self-management skills
• Fluent English required
• French and German languages an advantage but not a must for the position
