We are looking for an Application Engineer for one of our client based in Luxembourg.
- Freelance contract or permanent contract via a payrolling company
- Job based in Kirchberg
- English fluent is mandatory
- 100% on-site during the first 3 months and then up to 2 remote days per week
Business & Domain Engineering
- Partner with Architects, Product Owners, and business SMEs to shape problems into implementable, testable, traceable requirements
- Perform end-to-end impact analysis across processes, apps, data, and upstream/downstream integrations
- Align with target architecture, security standards, regulations, and internal policies
- Maintain a requirements baseline and manage change through the lifecycle
Plan & Analyze
- Run feasibility and complexity analyses
- Identify risks with mitigation strategies
- Assess resource, cost, and schedule impacts
System Design
- Define system designs, integration patterns (API, messaging, events), and data models, so teams build the right interfaces once and integrations stay resilient.
- Specify integration contracts and interface specs
Implement & Integrate
- Guide implementation, configuration, and migrations, so delivery teams move faster with fewer blocked sprints.
- Support cloud, hybrid, and on‑prem environments, so your solutions run where the business needs them, with consistent reliability.
Transition to Operations
- Lead production readiness reviews
- Define runbooks, SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, monitoring, and alerting
Operate & Improve
- Support L2/L3 operations
- Drive incident analysis, root cause investigations, and post‑mortems
- Feed operational learnings back into design and backlog
Software Engineering Support
- Embed non‑functional requirements by design
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and technical spikes
DevOps, CI/CD & Platform Enablement
- Collaborate on environment strategy and configuration management - so environments are consistent and releases become routine.
- Boost efficiency through automation and observability
Quality, Risk & Compliance
- Apply quality‑by‑design, security‑by‑design, and privacy by design
- Ensure traceability and documentation for regulatory, audit, and compliance
- Perform risk assessments across performance, security, and operations
- Keep system documentation as living artifacts (architecture, ADRs, specifications, runbooks)
Delivery Execution
- Operate effectively in Agile/Scrum, hybrid, and traditional models
- Contribute to backlog refinement, sprint planning, and release planning
- Support demos, stakeholder feedback, and technical decision forums
- Act as a delivery enabler balancing business priorities with engineering constraints
Application Responsibility (AR)
- Own assigned applications end‑to‑end across investment and maintenance, so you see the full lifecycle and shape the roadmap.
- For custom solutions, partner closely with Software Engineers; for packaged solutions, drive integration and lifecycle management
- Share patterns, standards, and lessons learned.
Your profile :
- BSc / BA in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical field.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in application and solution engineering, or software delivery roles.
- Experience in financial services, Wealth Management, or regulated environments is a strong advantage.
- Proven collaboration with Software Developers, Architects, DevOps, QA, and Operations teams.
Technical Proficiency
- System and application design, service decomposition, and integration architecture.
- Data modeling (logical and physical).
- Integration patterns: REST/GraphQL APIs, messaging, event-driven architectures, batch/file interfaces.
- Non-functional requirements: performance, resilience, security, observability, scalability.
- Test strategy, automation, TDD/BDD, contract testing, and quality assurance.
- CI/CD concepts, release management, environment configuration, and operational readiness.
- Ability to review and assess code quality for maintainability, performance, and security.
