Head of Platform Engineering

Your role:

Strategic Leadership:

• Define and execute the platform services strategy in alignment with the organization’s overall technology vision and business goals.

• Lead the development and implementation of platform solutions that support internal applications, customer-facing services, and business processes.

• Foster innovation and ensure platform services are adaptable to evolving business needs, market changes, and emerging technologies.

• Collaborate with senior leadership and other departments (e.g., product, development, IT) to define platform requirements and ensure alignment with broader business objectives.

Platform Architecture and Design:

• Oversee the design and architecture of scalable, high-performance platform infrastructure that supports applications, databases, networks, and services.

• Ensure platform design incorporates best practices for security, compliance, and disaster recovery.

• Define and implement architecture principles, standards, and best practices for platform services.

Cloud Infrastructure and Services:

• Lead the development and maintenance of cloud platform environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), ensuring robust, scalable, and cost-effective infrastructure.

• Drive the migration of on-premise systems to cloud-based platforms, optimizing costs and improving agility.

• Oversee cloud resource management, ensuring platforms are optimized for performance, availability, and scalability.

Platform Operations and Reliability:

• Ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of all platforms, with a strong focus on uptime, disaster recovery, and system health.

• Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the health and performance of platforms, ensuring they meet internal and customer expectations.

• Implement and oversee comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and reporting systems to proactively identify and address issues.

• Develop and enforce service-level agreements (SLAs) for platform services, ensuring adherence to operational standards.

DevOps and Automation:

• Lead the implementation of DevOps best practices, automation, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for improved platform performance and agility.

• Drive the automation of platform provisioning, monitoring, scaling, and management to reduce manual intervention and increase operational efficiency.

• Promote a culture of collaboration between development, operations, and IT teams to streamline delivery processes.

Team Leadership and Development:

• Lead, mentor, and grow the platform services team, including platform engineers, cloud specialists, and DevOps practitioners.

• Build a high-performing team by hiring, training, and providing professional development opportunities for staff.

• Establish clear goals and expectations for platform services staff, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

• Promote cross-functional collaboration within the platform services team and with other departments.

Budget and Resource Management:

• Develop and manage budgets for platform services, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while maintaining high levels of platform availability and performance.

• Manage capacity planning, ensuring that infrastructure and platform resources scale efficiently as demand increases.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

• Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps.

• Identify opportunities for platform enhancements and lead the implementation of new technologies or methodologies that improve platform efficiency, performance, or scalability.

• Encourage a culture of continuous improvement within the platform services team and across the organization.ineers, cloud specialists, and DevOps practitioners.

Your Profile:

• 10+ years’ experience in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, or DevOps, including senior leadership roles.

• Strong people manager with proven experience leading cross-functional engineering teams.

• Deep expertise in cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), platform architecture, and scalable distributed systems.

• Solid hands-on understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD, IaC, automation, monitoring, and reliability engineering.

• Strategic mindset with a track record of defining platform vision, driving cloud transformations, and ensuring high availability.
