Your Role...

We are looking for a Senior Research Development Manager with a proven track record in international research management and an expert in the EU funding environment.

Reporting to the Vice-Rector for Research, the strategic research development manager will work at a strategic level to increase the University's research income and help to implement its international funding strategy.

With a focus on EU funding programs, this includes the mapping of research strengths, pre-award and post-award management, communication with international stakeholders and networks, as well as coordination of internal administrative processes. In close collaboration with existing teams, the strategic manager will work transversally with multiple university services to support the research community in the acquisition and management of complex research programs.

As a key member of the VRR's team, the strategic manager contributes to advance research and innovation goals, and to foster academic and operational excellence throughout the University of Luxembourg. Key priorities include:

  • Develop and implement overarching strategy for international research funding with a focus on EU support and a funder and discipline-facing attitude
  • Build and maintain regular exchange with relevant national and international stakeholders and research funding networks
  • Build strong relationships and credibility with academic and administrative staff across the University, working collaboratively to advance research and innovation goals and to foster academic and operational excellence throughout the institution
  • Drive efficient processes for financial and administrative management of complex projects, in cooperation with the Research Support Department and the University's administrative services
  • Represent the University in international agencies or working groups in relation with EU funding programs and policies
  • Manage and contribute to the periodic and ad hoc production of reports, presentations and/or publications to internal and/or external stakeholders on strategic issues

What we expect from you…

  • Proven track record in academic research management throughout multiple scientific disciplines
  • Deep knowledge of the higher education sector and of EU funding programs
  • Well established international network
  • Knowledge and understanding of Luxembourg's ecosystem and International research and innovation funding environment
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Proven track record in financial grant management and administrative processes
  • Experience of data sourcing and quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Demonstrated integrity, excellent judgement and diplomacy
  • Team-oriented and comfortable in a multidisciplinary, multilingual and multicultural environment
  • Excellent command of English and French are a must, knowledge of German and/or Luxembourgish will be considered as a plus
  • Open-minded, proactive, able to multi-task and able to work autonomously
  • Welcoming, collaborative and service oriented attitude
