Position

The official residence of the U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg seeks an experienced Housekeeper.  The incumbent is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the Chief of Mission Residence (CMR) and for assisting the Employer and their family with various household chores.

The incumbent assumes additional duties to ensure that receptions, dinners, and other events run smoothly, and works under the supervision of the Residence Manager.

Professional experience

• Two years (experience in diplomatic and/or private residence desired)

Educational level

• Completion of secondary school

Responsibilities

• Coordinate activities with the Ambassador, the Executive Office, and other Residence staff, and is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the private and guest rooms, as well as the staff area, of a large residence on a daily basis.
• Assist with receptions and dinners, including food preparation, table service, and cleanup as required, and periodically washes windows and cleans out closets.
• Prepare guest rooms in advance of expected guests and maintain their cleanliness while vacant.
• Responsible for the proper care and maintenance of clothing and linen at the Residence, including washing, ironing, and pressing clothes, as well as the proper upkeep of the linen closets. This includes washing, drying, and ironing or pressing table linens, napkins, and placemats, and washing, drying, ironing, and folding bed linens.
• Maintain cleanliness of the work area and ensure that all machines are properly cared for, escorts workers in the Residence as required, and mends and sews as needed.
• Care for plants and flowers in the Residence.
• Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the Residence.

Profile

• Discretion and Trustworthiness: Maintaining strict confidentiality regarding the Employer, their family and/or guests.
• A service-oriented, flexible approach, including willingness to work evenings, weekends and irregular hours around events.
• Communication: Able to communicate, and receive instruction, in English; basic understanding of French highly desired.
• Proactive Initiative: Spots what needs attention (e.g., straightening a room, handling a spill, or tracking supplies) without needing constant instruction.
• Time management: Completes tasks efficiently without losing cleaning quality.
• Physical stamina: Handles bending, lifting, and long hours on their feet.
